Marblehead, MA – From the corner of the awe inspiring Port Townsend Wooden Boat Festival emerged the latest design from Zurn Yacht Design. What a fitting venue to debut yet another example of how the past meets present with the timeless styling of this 48’ motor yacht built of vinylester resin infused e-glass with cross-linked Corecell® core, all coupled to Volvos innovated IPS 800 joystick propulsion system.
With a moderate length-to-beam ratio, carefully designed running bottom and efficient propulsion system, Doug Zurn has ensured a smooth, comfortable ride. Lightweight composites and joiner materials keep this big motoryacht relatively light and nimble, giving her the agility of a boat half her size and a top speed on her maiden voyage from Port Townsend to Seattle of 34 knots. Cruising comfortably at 28 knots with standard twin Volvo IPS 800 diesels, the I/S 48 affords a very respectable 400 nautical mile cruising range.
The yacht is graced with many of the features found on more elaborate yachts including hydraulic drop-down side and aft windows in the salon/bridge, retractable awning by SureShade® and a patent pending combination drop down transom/davit arrangement that’s truly unique and will certainly be the envy of all.
The interior layout centers around a large common area featuring an aft galley, wet bar, entertainment center, comfortable seating for eight and a spacious lower helm layout. A generous vestibule welcomes you below where you’ll find three guest staterooms offering a queen size island berth forward with private head and shower and two cabins port and starboard aft. A second day head with shower is located to port. All three sleeping cabins are separated by a “buffer” zone for quite, private accommodations. There is abundant clothing and gear storage while hull and deck ports, and overhead hatches draw in natural light and ventilation.

With the abundant source of talent found in shipwrights of the North West, the Doug Zurn designed I/S 48 is a stunning work of art. Her handsome lines are nicely complimented by the exquisite joinery details that this newly organized yard (Salish Sea Yachts) will become known for, for years to come.
