New Zurn/Neb 38 custom dive boat under construction

June 10, 2015 - Massachusetts based Zurn Yacht Design has announced the construction of the Zurn designed 38ft twin water-jet boat.

Boat production is already underway at New England Boatworks, a top tier builder with a history of successful collaborations with Doug Zurn and his team.
This 38-foot pleasure yacht is an adaptation of the iconic New England design, with sleek lines, low-profile open pilot-house, spacious cockpit, and inherently stable hull form.

Fast and fun

On-board power is supplied by a substantial DC house battery bank
The Zurn/NEB 38 is conceived for fishing and diving, and to get speed quickly.

The Ultra Jet drives are powered by twin Volvo Penta D-6 Diesel engines (a combined 870 hp for a 40 knot top speed) with a choice of wheel or joystick steering. She will comfortably cruise at 36 knots.
The hull and deck are built with an epoxy resin infused, cored composite construction, for a light-weight and strong structure.

Careful design of the hard-chined, moderate-V planning hull optimizes hull shape efficiency and ride stability. Assisting the smooth ride is Sea- keepers NEW 3DC battery powered gyrostabilizer, which delivers unprecedented stability while at anchor diving or trolling for trophy fish.

A removable, remote steering station can be mounted on the pilot house hard-top. The designer explains this is for maximum vantage point in tight maneuvering.

The mast-like station provides a sturdy, buckle-in, ergonomically designed leaning post with yolk-arms that accommodate the water jet joystick and throttle controls. Additional control is offered by the Side Power bow-thruster. On-board power is supplied by a substantial DC house battery bank. An inverter provides 120 VAC power with both AC and DC power outlets located throughout the pilot-house and cabin. Audio entertainment can be shared between the Cabin, Pilot House, and Cockpit areas.

Noise and vibration control
Main engine exhausts are provided by Marine Exhaust Systems, whose water injection system and in-line exhaust silencer are proven solutions for quiet exhausts.
The propulsion engines and other important and vibration-prone equipment are supported on soft elastic mountings for reduced structure borne noise. Machinery space insulation uses a combination of acoustic foam, mass-barrier layers, and vibration damping treatments in a carefully designed acoustic package to significantly reduce sound transmission into passenger areas. Robust double – gasketting of deck hatches assures no acoustic leaks through deck hatch seals.
